Finishing your active orthodontic treatment at Newbury Park Orthodontics is an exciting moment, but the road to a beautiful smile doesn’t stop there. When Dr. Hoffman removes your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment.
What To Expect During Retention
Once your teeth have been completely corrected by your braces, aligners, or other orthodontic appliances, we want to make sure we do everything we can to protect the new smile you’ve worked so hard for. This retention period involves wearing a specially molded retainer to prevent your teeth from moving out of place, and usually lasts at least two years.
Why Is It Important?
If teeth are not retained in their new positions, they will move back to where they were. This is why Newbury Park Orthodontics puts so much focus on long-term retention. Complying with the recommended retention protocol is essential if you want to get the most out of your orthodontic treatment.
Taking Care of Your Retainer
It is very important that you keep your retainers clean; by brushing them each time you brush your teeth. We recommend you brush retainers with water, or mild soap and water, as toothpaste tends to dull the finish. Retainers should also always be kept in a case when not being worn, because they can easily be crushed if left lying around.
Retaining in Style
You got to make the orthodontic choice you liked best at your first visit, and you can continue doing so in retention. By using our Retainer Color Selector, you are able to select from over 20 different color options. Check out the Selector below, and start personalizing your own retainer today!
